DUNN'S RIVER FALLS

Dunn’s River Falls, arguably Jamaica’s most popular attraction for both residents and visitors alike, is considered one of the country’s national treasures. As one of the most visited attractions on the island, it provides picturesque views of both a tropical jungle and the sparkling azure waters of the Caribbean Sea, seen from falls that extend as high as 180 feet while extending to a length of 600 feet. It stands as a living testament to Jamaica’s natural beauty and is the most beloved of all the Jamaican falls, attracting millions of the world’s visitors each year.

This iconic attraction is a highly promoted location in the country, largely due to the satisfaction level of the many people who decide to go there while on vacation in Jamaica. With multiple waterfalls, cascading over limestone ledges then pouring into the ocean, the attraction caters to both the more adventurous, who wish to hike the falls, known as a ‘wet climb’, with or without a guide or those who simply wish to take a ‘dry climb’ where they are able to walk alongside the falls via a walking trail.

A brisk 90 minute hike will take you on an exhilarating adventure through lush surroundings, with pools you can swim in dotting the way to the summit. At the base of the waterfall, you will find both its defining feature, and what makes it so unique as the falls empty directly into the Caribbean Sea at Little Dunn’s River Beach. Described as a living and growing phenomenon, it continuously regenerates itself from deposits of travertine rock, the result of precipitation of calcium carbonate from the river, as it flows over the falls. The small dome-shaped cataracts are usually associated with thermal spring activity found in limestone caves. This, combined with its location near to the sea, gives Dunn’s River the distinction of being the only one of its kind in the Caribbean, and one of the few travertine waterfalls in the entire world! They are open daily from 8:30 AM - 4:00 PM and are located 75 minutes from the hotel.
